The interest for adventure tourism and extreme sports has been growing steadily during the last decades, and Mexico offers a wealth of options to practice this type of sports.
Surfing is a much extended sport along the Mexican coasts. San Blas (Jalisco) and Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca) attract many surfers from all over the world, but these are only a few examples of ideal places for practicing this sport.
Another very popular sport is scuba-diving, which you can practice in places like Mulegé (Baja California), Quimixto (Jalisco), Playa del Carmen, Akumal and in the lagoon of Xel-Há (all located in the Yucatán Peninsule).
The most beautiful places for diving are probably in the two islands east of the Yucatán Peninsule: Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, whose coral reef is called “the Paradise Reef”.
Rafting is very popular in Veracruz and Morelos, where excursions are organized for one or more days. Another option is parachute jumping, which you can practice in many parts of the country. Different programs and jump varieties like tandem jumps with an instructor, instructor assisted free fall, freestyle and sky surfing are offered. In some airports, a medical certificate of good health is required, if you want to practice this sport. Furthermore can be mentioned paragliding, which is practiced in Valle de Bravo (the state of Mexico), and the valleys of Oaxaca andPuebla.
